Hurricane Protection in Acapulco
In October 2023, Hurricane Otis made landfall just south of Acapulco as a Category 5; less than a year later, Hurricane John brought severe flooding to the same coast. Acapulco is rebuilding, and this page brings together what we have learned and how we protect hotels, condominium towers and residences around the bay.
What we’ve learned in Acapulco
Hurricane protection is more than the fabric. It has five parts —product, engineering, anchoring, installation and deployment—, each one can fail on its own, and the building is only as safe as the weakest of them.

What each property in Acapulco needs
Hotels
Along the Costera, in Punta Diamante and around the bay, hotels are reinvesting in their buildings. They need certified systems, engineered anchoring and a documented deployment plan. Hotel protection program
Condominium towers
Tall, exposed and governed by boards acting for owners who are not always present. Wind increases with height: every floor is evaluated for its own exposure, not treated as a copy of the one below. Protecting Acapulco high-rises
Residences
In Las Brisas and the hillsides above the bay, homes are designed around large glass and open views. After Otis, many owners want protection that is serious without permanently changing the house. Residential protection
Hurricane Solution is the only member of the International Hurricane Protection Association outside the United States (what that means), and its fabric systems are led by the HS-1500, tested to ASTM E1996 at Level E.
