Why the connection between the fabric and the building is as important as the fabric itself.

Hurricane fabric is often discussed as though the textile were the entire product. In practice, the fabric is only one part of an engineered load path. When debris strikes the screen and wind pressure pushes or pulls on the protected opening, those forces have to move through the perimeter of the panel, through the hardware and anchors, and finally into the building itself.
That is why Hurricane Solution treats the anchoring system as a primary engineering component rather than a collection of fasteners. The strongest fabric in the world cannot compensate for a weak substrate, poor spacing, incorrect fasteners or a connection that was never designed for the loads it is expected to carry.
Prepared for the storm without dominating the view.
A coastal property lives with its hurricane protection for the entire year, even though the screen may be deployed for only a few days. Large permanent shutters or tracks can therefore create an architectural compromise that many resorts, condominiums and luxury homeowners would prefer to avoid.
Hurricane Solution's patented system takes a different approach. The structural attachment points remain in place, but the fabric is stored when it is not needed. The permanent hardware is intentionally low-profile so that the property can retain its normal appearance between storms while remaining prepared for rapid deployment.
There is no responsible universal anchoring detail.
A clip mounted into sound reinforced concrete is working with a very different substrate from one installed near the edge of a masonry opening, through a façade finish, into structural steel or in a coastal wall that has been exposed to salt and moisture for years.
Before installation, the opening and the supporting structure have to be evaluated together. The team considers the material behind the finish, edge distances, waterproofing conditions, corrosion exposure, opening dimensions, span, anticipated deflection and the practical space available for deployment.

As the fabric deflects, however, the forces at the perimeter can become substantial. The anchors must resist those loads without pulling out of the substrate or allowing the edge of the screen to disengage.
This is one reason product selection cannot be based on fabric PSI alone. The complete assembly — textile, edge, clip, fastener, anchor and substrate — has to behave as one system.
An operational procedure, not an emergency construction project.
Once the permanent attachment points are installed, the same openings can be protected repeatedly without drilling new holes or constructing temporary barriers every time a storm approaches. Each panel is fabricated for a specific opening and labeled so that the property team knows where it belongs.
For a residence, this means the homeowner can prepare without turning the façade into a permanent shutter system. For a hotel or commercial property, it means hurricane deployment becomes an operational procedure that can be trained, documented and repeated rather than an emergency construction project.
Salt air is unforgiving.
Hardware that appears adequate when newly installed can become a liability if the material, finish or installation detail is poorly suited to a marine environment. Hurricane Solution therefore treats corrosion resistance, drainage and the condition of surrounding materials as part of the installation rather than as an afterthought.
The goal is not to claim that coastal hardware requires no attention forever. The goal is to design a system with suitable materials, make permanent hardware as simple as possible, and inspect the connection points as part of routine hurricane-season preparation.
The engineering advantage and the architectural advantage are related.
Because the protection is flexible and stored away, the property does not need to carry the visual weight of a large permanent shutter assembly throughout the year. The result is particularly useful for glass-heavy residences, resorts, terraces and façades where the view and architecture are central to the value of the property.
Ask what the supplier is actually selling.
When comparing systems, ask what the anchors are made from, what substrate the tested configuration used, how anchor spacing is determined, how the installer handles weak or deteriorated material, what remains visible after the screen is removed and whether the connection detail has been incorporated into the actual system testing.
Those questions usually reveal very quickly whether the supplier is selling fabric or designing a complete protection system.
