HS-1500: the highest-security system in the Hurricane Solution line

Leer en español →

HS-1500 is the backbone of Hurricane Solution’s highest-security system. Every part of the system has been laboratory tested above the strength of a Category 5 hurricane, and it has weathered more than 30 powerful hurricanes around the world, showing that it works in real life. That is why the US military uses it to protect important installations.

What Level E is, and what it is not

ASTM E1996 Missile Level E fires an approximately 9-lb 2×4 at 80 feet per second. Level D uses a similar missile at 50 ft/s; because energy grows with the square of velocity, Level E carries about 2.56 times the kinetic energy of Level D. It is the level used for essential facilities in the strongest wind zones. Full detail on Level E.

It is an ASTM test level, not a military certification. Work for the US military is separate evidence: the US Navy hospital specification in Guam (274 km/h design wind; read the case) and, as a historical reference, Charleston Air Force Base in 2012.

Translucent, not transparent

HS-1500 lets light through, but you cannot make out what is on the other side. It is the choice for a closed-envelope strategy and the largest protection margin. If outward visibility is a priority, compare HS-1250, which is transparent white.

Where it is specified

Beachfront hotels, critical facilities, operations where a failure has serious consequences and owners who want the largest margin in the line. It can be specified in all zones, including beachfront. See hotels, hotel deployment and the storm record.

Very low maintenance

  • After a storm, rinse the screen with fresh water so salt residue is not stored with the product.
  • Never place a wet screen into storage; let it dry completely first.
  • Keep the screws in the anchors whenever practical, so screws are not lost and anchor holes do not fill with dirt or debris.
  • Once a year, before hurricane season, confirm that every screw threads correctly into its anchor.

Frequent questions

Is Level E a military certification?

No. ASTM E1996 Missile Level E is an impact test level (~9-lb 2×4 at 80 ft/s) used for essential facilities in the strongest wind zones. Projects for the US military are separate evidence.

Can you see through HS-1500?

No. It is translucent: light passes, but you cannot make out what is on the other side.

Which approvals does it carry?

The HS-1500 assembly holds Miami-Dade NOA 25-0519.01 and Florida Product Approval FL17661-R5. Those approvals belong to HS-1500; they do not transfer to HS-1250 or HS-875.

Can it be used beachfront?

Yes. HS-1500 is specified in all zones, including beachfront.

What maintenance does it need?

Very little: rinse with fresh water after a storm, dry fully before storage, keep the screws in the anchors and confirm once a year that every screw threads into its anchor.
