Hurricane Protection Prices in Puerto Vallarta (2026)

In Puerto Vallarta you pay for the square meters of windows and doors you protect, not the size of the house. A large home with few windows can cost less than a small condo with floor-to-ceiling glass. Pricing includes custom fabrication for every opening, stainless-steel anchors and professional installation, with the same pricing criteria we use in Cancún and the Riviera Maya: there’s no Vallarta premium. The short answer

Hurricane fabric protection systems are custom-engineered based on high-velocity wind-load calculations, opening spans, mounting substrates, and motorization requirements. Contact our engineering team directly for a precise project calculation.

Examples around Banderas Bay

What we measure are the openings. These are typical opening sizes by property type; they’re estimates, and your assessment measures them exactly. (1 m² is about 10.8 sq ft.)

PropertyTypical openings
2–3 bedroom condo in Marina Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta25–40 m² (270–430 sq ft)
200 m² house (Zona Romántica, Versalles, Fluvial)30–40 m² (320–430 sq ft)
300 m² villa in Conchas Chinas, Amapas or Punta Mita50–100 m² (540–1,080 sq ft)

Which system you need

SystemBest for in VallartaWarranty
HS-875 (Category 3)Inland homes more than 500 m from the coast: Fluvial, Versalles, hillside neighborhoods5 years
HS-1250 (Category 5)Ocean-view or within 1 km of the coast: Zona Romántica, Marina Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías7 years
HS-1500 (ASTM E1996 Level E)Beachfront homes, hotels and properties with large glass walls10 years
AquaGridLobbies, facades and very large openings common in bay hotelsPer project
HS Terrace (rain)Terraces, restaurants and outdoor living areasPer project

Installation is simpler with HS-875 or HS-1250, standard-size openings, low installation height and walls ready for anchoring. It gets more complex with HS-1500 Level E, wide spans, work at height or walls that need reinforcement. Your assessment confirms the system for each opening.

What can add cost, and why

We’d rather tell you now than surprise you later:

  • Structural reinforcement (steel PTR framing). This is the most common extra. If a wall or frame can’t hold an anchor safely, we add a steel profile. The free assessment determines whether you need it.
  • Height and scaffolding. Upper floors in Marina Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta towers may need scaffolding or lift equipment, listed as a separate line item.
  • Difficult access. Hillside villas in Conchas Chinas and Amapas, or facades above cliffs, can increase labor.
  • Very large openings. Above a certain span, standard hurricane fabric isn’t the right solution. AquaGrid is custom-made in the US and quoted separately.
  • Water protection. If your property is near the Río Cuale, on a ground floor or has exposed terraces, you may want HS Terrace as well, quoted separately.

What’s included

  • Free, no-obligation on-site technical assessment
  • Custom fabrication for every opening (no generic pieces or on-site cutting)
  • Stainless-steel anchors suited to the coastal environment
  • Professional installation, tension test and final inspection
  • On-site training for your staff or property manager
  • A written deployment manual for every season
  • Written warranty by system (5, 7 or 10 years)
  • Installation documentation for your insurer

You can verify the HS-1500’s certification yourself: Miami-Dade NOA 25-0519.01, searchable in Miami-Dade County’s public product approval database. See also Level E.

The calendar detail that changes the price

Hurricane season on Mexico’s Pacific coast, including Puerto Vallarta, starts on May 15, almost three weeks before the Caribbean season.

Installing in the off-season, November to April, lets you pick your date, gives time for fabrication and leaves time to train whoever will deploy the system. Hiring during an active hurricane alert is a different story: materials and crews are in demand everywhere, and rush installations cost more, if they can be done at all. When Hurricane Simon sat off Cabo Corrientes in October 2026, almost no one in the bay could fabricate and install a permanent system during the alert.

If you don’t live here full-time

Many of our Vallarta clients spend part of the year in the US or Canada. Our systems are designed for that:

  • They’re light, about 1 kg for every 3 m², so a property manager or caretaker can deploy them without a crew.
  • Anchors stay flush with the wall and nearly invisible between seasons, which helps with HOA rules about exterior changes.
  • We train your manager on site and leave a written manual, so protection doesn’t depend on you flying in or on us arriving during an alert.

How to compare our price with other quotes

A price per square meter only compares fairly if both quotes measure the same thing. Ask every provider for:

  • The list of measured openings. Fewer square meters may mean service doors, side windows or vents were left out.
  • The certification number, not just the word “certified”, and check it yourself.
  • The anchor type in writing, and what kind of wall it’s for.
  • Who deploys the system before each storm. If it depends on the provider, your home competes with every other client that day.
  • A written warranty, with years and coverage.

When a quote is much cheaper, something on that list has usually changed. That isn’t always bad, but you should know what changed.

The cost of not protecting

A window that fails in a hurricane costs far more than a window. Wind gets in, pressurizes the interior, and the damage spreads to floors, walls, furniture and, in serious cases, the roof. If the property is a rental, add the months without income while it’s repaired. If you’re insured, add the deductible and the time the claim takes.

In Hurricane Lidia (2023), much of the damage in Puerto Vallarta came from water: the Río Cuale overflowed and streets and ground floors flooded. With Hurricane Simon (2026), the airport and the malecón closed while the storm sat for hours off Cabo Corrientes. In a bay where years can pass between major storms, the cost of preparing is fixed and known. The cost of not preparing isn’t.

Frequently asked questions

How much does hurricane protection cost in Puerto Vallarta?

It’s priced per square meter of protected opening, installed. Hurricane fabric protection systems are custom-engineered based on high-velocity wind-load calculations, opening spans, mounting substrates, and motorization requirements. Contact our engineering team directly for a precise project calculation. The online estimator gives you an instant estimate, and the free on-site assessment confirms the exact figure.

Is it more expensive in Puerto Vallarta than in Cancún?

No. We use the same pricing criteria in Puerto Vallarta as in Cancún and the Riviera Maya.

Why do you price by window area instead of house size?

Because what we protect are the windows and doors. A large house with few openings costs less than a condo with floor-to-ceiling glass.

What’s the difference between hurricane fabric and hurricane shutters?

Our systems are certified hurricane fabric screens anchored to the building. They’re lighter and faster to deploy than metal shutters and nearly invisible between seasons. Roll-down and accordion shutters stay on the facade year-round and usually cost more per square meter. Which is better depends on how often you need to close each opening.

Which system do I need?

It depends on distance from the ocean and opening size: HS-875 inland, HS-1250 near or facing the ocean, HS-1500 for beachfront homes and hotels, and AquaGrid for very large openings. Your assessment confirms it.

Is installation included?

Yes. The price includes fabrication, stainless-steel anchors, installation, training, a written manual and a written warranty.

What can raise the price?

Structural reinforcement, scaffolding for work at height, difficult access, very large openings (AquaGrid) and additional water protection.

When should I buy?

Between November and April, so the system is installed before May 15, when Pacific hurricane season begins.

Can my property manager deploy it while I’m away?

Yes. That’s how most of our part-time owners use it. We train your manager and leave a written manual.
